Weathering The Storms

The heavy wind and rain moved in around midnight. It was luckily brief with some gusts in the high 30’s and little thunderstorm activity. Then there was west wind but mild until the daytime.

I was battling my own storm at the time; a stomach bug. I was not much help for David except for the fact that I was tucked out of the way and could not offer any opinions, which may have been the most help of all.

The major wind and storm came around 11 am. At one point our Genoa wanted to unfurl but David tightened it up. We were rocking up and down but secure and dry. Meanwhile, anchored boats were having issues. One boat got slammed by another. The Electric Mermaid started dragging and was washing ashore at the Chat N Chill. Another boat’s anchor was dislodged by a swinging boat and they were dragging toward shore but managed to salvage the situation.

The storm

A heroic rescue of the Electric Mermaid took place where three dinghies tipped her on her side with a halyard at the top of the mast and pulled her safely to a mooring ball.

We were supposed to get another storm band at 1-2 pm but luckily it passed north of us and we just ended the day with a bit more rain. Luckily all the storms passed before nightfall and we had a peaceful night.
