We had to explore Rock Sound in the morning as we were due to get increasing winds and thunderstorms around 4-5 with another frontal passage. The winds were expected to gust into the 30’s from the west and then northwest and then blow north in the low to mid 20’s for over 24 hours. The southwest winds were in the teens as we launched Fat Tuesday and made the trip to shore.
There is a decent dinghy dock in Rock Sound with a trash facility nearby. There is a water spigot nearby and we filled our jugs to keep our water topped off.
After the boat chores, we went to check out the Cathedral Caves. There is a small blue hole hear the caves that is called the boiling hole because it sometimes bubbles due to its underground connections to the ocean. We did not see any bubbles.

We took the path to the caves which were divided into 3 sections. We walked through them. Some trees had found a way through the rock and others were sending roots down hoping to reach the moist soil below. There were some bats flying in the upper reaches but they did not bother us.

After the caves, we went to another blue hole that was full of fish. The town had built a nice park here. Some people swim there but we did not have our dive gear. We could see the fish from above.

We walked to the Wild Orchid for fish tacos, then on to the market for a few fresh foods and then to Louis’ for some ice cream treats. On the way, we stopped in an art studio. Warren Knowles is the artist’s name but his studio is called Grand Ma’s. He has lots of paintings on the road near the studio. I am not sure who painted some nearby murals on buildings. It was a very colorful street, Fish Street.

The artist, was very friendly. He told us about the art and where to go on the island. He showed us the tamarind tree and how to find the ripe pods. They were sour and delicious. We wanted to buy some art but he said they were just not finished yet. One painting of the moon over the water was not signed yet. We were not sure he really wanted to sell his art.

It was a rough ride back to the boat. We unloaded and brought Fat Tuesday up. We did some last minute preparations for the storms and watched the clouds gather. There was a threatening cloud with some thunder that passed by us and then a strong rain that had some wind but no electricity. A rainbow followed and strong winds. We are due for another long night and day tomorrow. Wednesday should be much more calm.
