Girls and Giggles

I started early with the business of credit freeze and reporting a lost driver’s license. I made it through everything but reporting my lost license to law enforcement. I need to do this Monday. I ordered replacements for everything. All of our autopay bills are on the one card so the most difficult step is still ahead once I get the new number.

We had visited our friend Grace and her family last year and had contacted them again to meet up this time. We love Grace and Patrick’s girls, Becca and Kristina as well as Grace and Patrick. It was misty but we decided on an outing. The girls had picked “The Mosquito Museum” for our first stop. After returning the bikes, we walked a bit out of town so they would not have to fight the traffic from the Christmas parade in town. I have never been to a vector education center “Mosquito Museum” before but it was quite fun.

They have a great film of the mosquito life cycle and how they lay and egg raft on their hind legs and then float it out onto the surface of the water. The video continued through the larvae and pupae and emergence, all the way to the first blood meal.

The museum had a great bee hive so that you could view the inside of the hive from inside the museum. We saw worker bees returning from the tube that leads outside with pollen balls on their legs, and going to their assigned place on the honeycomb.

The girls loved flying us in the helicopter mosquito surveillance simulation, and the fish tank with mosquito fish that eat the mosquito larvae. We also learned about the elephant mosquito that does not need blood and whose larvae eat other mosquitos larvae. The female will follow other mosquitos to egg laying places. The adults eat nectar.

There is a good playground at the center which we also enjoyed.

The weather was a little better so we next headed to the beach to look for shark teeth and build sandcastles. We learned a new version of tag where you have to stay on a sand path.

We played games and sang songs in the car and went for pizza. Becca and Kristina went on vacation and brought apples, bananas, cucumbers and cake, donuts, elephants, fish, giraffes, hooligans, ice, jumpers, kangaroos, llamas, monkeys, Nona’s (grandmothers), octopus, pussycats, queen bees, rabbits, snakes, turtles, umbrellas, violins, willow, xylophones, and zebras! A great day.
