Departures

It was a day of complicated logistics. Norman from Kevali took Sara and Austin to town to catch their morning flight. Becca and Michael stayed at the house completing finishing touches. Cathy and David took the dinghy to town and got diesel, then left her at the dinghy dock. We met Sara and Austin when they arrived, hugged them and then got a ride with Norman back to the house. Luther picked Austin and Sara up for the airport shuttle.

The house was very clean and David shuttled our things to the boat in the motor boat. Michael and Becca went searching for turtles on the paddle boards. They saw quite a few. Then Michael and I went for one last turtle explore, a combination paddle snorkel. We did not see any that trip but it was special to have one more adventure together.

We boarded the White Express, said our Kevali farewell and headed to town. We docked the boat at Exuma Yacht Club for a few hours and headed to lunch. We had planned Sandpiper but it was closed as was the restaurant across the street. Sharie’s was open for drinks but no food. We bought some snacks at the market, drinks at Sharie’s and sat outside at her little table.

Luther came back for Becca and Michael at 1215. We hugged them, did our shopping and headed back to the boat in the White Express. Cade the sailmaker came at 2 pm to bring our fin delta sail that he had made. We rigged it partially to get the idea of it. We have to adjust lines and play with it a bit but it looks like it will work.

We drove the motor boat back to the rental place and docked it. Right on schedule, Luther showed up to take us back to the dinghy dock. We thanked him for shuttling our family around all day. We got water and took the fuel, water and dinghy back to the boat. David got the fuel jugs strapped in and some of the water in the tanks. We tried to clean up and get things organized.

At 5, we joined Jeff and Deb at the Snappy Turtle for dinner. We are trying to leave Georgetown tomorrow. They will be staying in Georgetown at least another week. We are anxious to get on the bank side for the two weeks of stronger east winds that are predicted. Getting there, allows us to travel up the bank where it is not so rough as in the Sound. We can also anchor or moor at places where it is easy to dinghy to shore. Our plan is to sail to Black Point tomorrow.

Last Georgetown dinner with Jeff and Deb. We will meet again soon.
