Back to Galliot

Cat Island sunrise

We made the sail from Cat to Galliot. It was a rocky but nice sail. Some of the waves were big in the Sound. Our timing for traversing Galliot Cut was not great but we would have had to leave at 3 am to get there at slack tide or wait to enter after dark. Those options came with their own hazards.

We sailed the whole trip and lowered the sails before the cut. The current was pouring out of the cut against us and the wind was not directly opposing the current, but was against it enough to make some waves. The current was about 4 knots. We had to bring our engine up to 3000 rpms to power through. David had to be sure to keep our bow pointed straight into the current. We passed High Cay on our way in. I tried to video the ride but it was into the sun and it is hard to get the feel of it from the video.

High Cay

We made it through and anchored. Jeff and Deb were already here. They had trouble anchoring in the current but by the time we got there, it was not a problem. The wind and current would be opposing, however on the incoming tide.

Nautilus

We headed to the beach, swam and discovered a trail across. We decided to maybe stay here a few days if we have a good night as there is good snorkeling around and it is supposed to be calm on Friday. Deb, Jeff and Dawson joined us on the beach for a while. Dawson did not bark as long as we pretended not to notice him. Some other dogs came to the beach during our stay.

Can you spot me?
Can you spot Rocky?

The sunset was beautiful. There are about 10 boats here in various spots around the cut. We will have winds from the southwest tonight that will then clock around to be predominantly northwest tomorrow.
