It was windy today so we decided on hiking. Last year, we tried to hike from the Emerald Rock area to the office and lost the trail somewhere in the middle. Today we decided to try to get back there and then go see some ruins that we had never been to. We started out on the Causeway trail behind the office. It was new to us, and well marked.

We had not realized that the creek flowed all the way through the island. It is dry at the mooring field side at low tide.
Next, we headed up Houtia Hill to the Houtia highway and down shady trail. We made it to Tabebuia Beach but lost our way on the buttonwood trail after that. Our destination is circled below.

Despite our ultimate defeat, it was a nice hiking day. We snacked and swam at Tabebuia Beach. We turned around because we wanted to get back for pizza night on Eleanor. Alanna and Brendan had invited us and Marcie’s family for pizza on the boat at 4:30.

We headed back via Boo Boo Hill. David stopped at the musical rock to play a tune.
We stopped in the office for a drink after our hike. We were sitting on the shady porch when we heard our names. It was Kris and Clay from S/V Persistence. We had met them in the very same spot last year. We sat with them for a bit, great to catch up.

We then made a salad and headed to pizza night with four other adults, two dogs and two toddlers on a 35 foot boat. It was surprisingly roomy. We sat such that the toddlers could cruise up and down the companionway and were never out of reach of one hand or another.
Alanna’s pizza was delicious, completely homemade in the boat oven: a buffalo chicken, and a pepperoni, very impressive. A pizza stone may be a good boat addition, a very small one.
