Warderick Wells

We wanted to get back to the area known as the Pirate’s Lair, a beautiful harbour on the southern end of the island. We had hiked there last year but decided to go by dinghy this year.

While we were getting ready, there was a splash and some beautiful spotted rays were swimming by. Once again our cameras were not quite ready.

We packed a lunch and our dinghy motor, solar panel and charger and headed out. There was current getting out of the north field but it was with us and we managed easily. We went down and around the island and through the cut into the harbor.

There are three mooring balls there, all in deep water. There is some current but good wind protection. We landed Fat Tuesday on the beach and set up our motor to charge even though we only used 25% getting all the way down the island.

We walked through the actual lair and up the trails a bit. We saw a shark cruising up and down the beach but he was afraid of us and took off when David stepped into the water. We ate lunch, walked the beach and swam.

A catamaran pulled in to one of the moorings. The. captain took the guests to the beach on the other side. We decided to head back as the tide was going out. We had several areas of current and some waves but made it fine. At one point, we had to go full throttle which uses more battery. We were happy for the extra charge we got on the beach.

After a little rest, we launched the paddleboard. I was able to do it despite the wind and currrent. I paddled first to one beach and then another. I was heading back to the boat when I saw David rowing over. We met on the office beach for a walk to Boo Boo Hill. Finn, Alanna and Brendan joined us.

We played in the creek on the way up. Alanna carried Finn most of the way. At the top, we were joined by Amy, Alex, and Marcie from Bubble Moon, who sailed from Canada. Marcie will be one year old in two days. She was carried up the hill in a front pack. The two young families are very nice.

We all talked for awhile on the beach before paddling and rowing back to the boat. Finn loved filling and pouring water out of our dinghy bailer which is an old water bottle with the top cut off. The kids teased us about having such a fancy bailer, a Dasani.
