Shroud Cay to Hawksbill Cay

We left around 8 am for Sanctuary Creek. High tide was at 10. We initially had current with us but it soon changed. We did not see any turtles on the way in, probably because it was high tide. The ride through the mangroves was beautiful.

When we arrived at the washing machine, the water was flowing in, still incoming tide and there was not much beach for the dinghy. We landed, however and carried Fat Tuesday around to the main beach. Several other dinghies arrived later. One boater swam through the washing machine and had no trouble so we decided to give it a try. It was great fun so we did it five or six times.

We left the washing machine as the current was slacking and headed out. Some other boaters had seen turtles on the north creek so we decided to take that path. We saw some turtles but they were too fast for my camera. There were just a few, not like last year. Some take home messages; lower tide is better for turtles. Incoming tide is incoming at the washing machine, it would be good to go out there 1-2 hours after high tide and spend the day. A really fun place.

On our way out, we passed the crew of Eleanor, part of the crew. No dogs were present. They were headed to the washing machine.

We decided to head to Warderick Wells next. We set out but the wind was strong and we had to head east to get there. We sailed on the south portion of the trip but when we turned east, we were in the waves. It was not dangerous but unnecessary so we decided to go to Hawksbill Cay for the night.

Hawksbill is part of the park. We arrived there at almost low tide and took Fat Tuesday around to this amazing area at the end of the island. There was a vast beach as well as other areas to explore.

Tomorrow we head to Warderick Wells but will return to Hawksbill in the spring.
