Vero Beach to Fort Pierce

mile 951.5-965

After the parade, the winds came and were strong. We were fine but one of our fellow boaters had his genoa partly unfurl at the dock. It was flapping and fraying. The owner fixed it temporarily but then it happened again. David tried to help him in the morning but it was stuck and they couldn’t unfurl it to refurl more tightly.

We needed to move on but waited for winds to abate a bit. We took the bus to the grocery and West Marine. There were also some great thrifting opportunities but we had to be quick.

In the afternoon, the winds were slightly better and the dock hands helped us out of our slip. It was cloudy and blustery as we headed to Fort Pierce. It was a short trip but would make for an easier run to the Palm Beach area tomorrow.

There was one bridge that opened on the hour and half hour. We had to go slowly as we would arrive just after the hour going normal speed. We could see three bridges in the distance where there should have been two. They are building a new A1A Causeway bridge right next to the old one. It is not yet on our chart. You go through both at once.

Approaching the bridges. It was hard to initially tell that the first two were joined
Saying goodbye to the A1A North Causeway draw bridge. The new one should open soon.

We anchored past the next bridge after crossing where the inlet enters. There are 10 plus foot waves out there today. It will not get better tomorrow so we plan for another inside passage.

The anchorage had strong current and it took us awhile to get pointed like the other boats. Just when we were going to try and re-anchor, she swung around.
