Side trip to Richmond Hill

We awakened to fog, and rain, and ten little blackbirds, sitting on our spreader. We scared them, and they moved to our neighbors boat, oops.

Yesterday, when we pulled into St. Mary’s, I received a text from Carol that she and Jeff were in Richmond Hill, near Savannah. I was sad that we were further south but it still seemed like we could make things work. I called and checked on car availability and there was none. The next morning, Carol said they could meet us. I checked car availability again and they had one! We decided to get a car, run some errands and then head to meet Carol and Jeff. We really wanted to see their house and see them. We were so close, 1.5 hours by car.

Enterprise picked us up right on time and we did errands. David had changed the oil so he took the old oil to the auto parts store for disposal. We provisioned and went to the hardware store for some items for the solar panel install. David also noted that our stuffing box was dripping too much again and needed adjustment, so he bought another tool for that.

We then set out for Richmond Hill and got there around 430. We found the cutest house on Lulu Lane and found Carol and Jeff there. It was still daylight and we got a tour of the house and grounds. It is beautiful. I love the house and the office and the beautiful views of the marsh. I love how the inner part of the house has windows so you can look out the outer windows and see the view.

Jeff then conducted a driving tour of the property which was once owned by Henry Ford. We visited wooded sections, equestrian sections and the old Ford mansion. We then visited a section where the houses are on smaller lots and built tall like the homes in Charleston.

We ended up at a pizza place that was quite good. We had too many choices, thick or thin, toppings, sauces, even square slices or triangular. We planned another meeting for the spring.

Tomorrow, we move across the river to Fernandina Beach. It is not a long trip but nonetheless important. We will be in Florida!
