St Mary’s to Fernandina Beach

mile 716-716.7

In the morning, David got to work on our stuffing box. He was able to tighten it easily. He ran the motor and everything stayed cool and did not leak.

Waylon, walking in the marina park, reminded me of someone
Morning dock dweller posing for a picture and did not move as I walked by several times

We did some laundry, went back to the hardware store and returned the car. The local yacht club keeps a phone line where boaters can call for a ride to the part of town I call “everywhere America.” We had called Frank to pick us up from the car rental. He met us there at 1130. We made a donation to the yacht club and he said it would go to their thanksgiving fund. They do a dinner every year for all the boaters in the area at Thanksgiving.

We walked to the Kracken Coffee shop with Alice and Banjo. She plans a visit to Cumberland Island, then on toward St. Augustine.

We left the dock for the short trip to Fernandina Beach. There was no wind and it was calm. We were happy for Nautilus who left for an ocean run to Port Canaveral.

Making our Cardboard

David squeezed us into a space on the Fernandina Harbor Marina dock. Our dockhands were helpful. Behind us was a Valiant named Zen Shorts.

We went to the mail room and picked up our solar panel and David’s new debit card that Michael had mailed there. David got to work on the solar panel. It fit well and we were able to connect it easily. We are back in business. We have some ideas for securing the wires more tightly to the hard top so that nothing gets caught on them.

We met a family on the dock from Gloucester Point who are sailing with a 2 year old and two dogs on a small sailboat named Eleanor. We met them again in town, played with their son Finn for awhile and talked with them. They are taking 6 months off to do the trip to the Bahamas. Finn was definitely happy to be in a bigger space and between the four of us we managed to cordon off half a city block for him to run around in. He loved pointing to things for me to name for him. We hope to see them again.

These guys are back
And look who else is here. Amazing window art all along the shops of Fernandina Beach

Alice texted in the evening. She sent some pictures of Cumberland Island, including a video of an armadillo! On our list for spring. We walked around the shops and had a bite at the Salty Pelican. We walked again around the lighted streets with the waxing moon.
