We woke up early to ready the boat to head to Cat Island. We are out of practice for this. We left the dinghy rudder and centerboard on deck and things on the top shelf which were not secured. Luckily we realized our mistakes and did not lose anything or break anything. It is disconcerting when sailing to hear things falling or banging.
The wind was brisk from the east as we passed through the cut into the sound. The waves were a bit confused. It was a nice reach with a double reefed main and reefed genoa and we were making over 6 knots. We played with our traveler a bit to try to lessen the heel. Fat Tuesday got washed by waves spraying the bow. We did remember to close the ports over our bed.
It was good to be sailing again. George Town has made us a little lazy. We headed for Hawk’s Nest Point of Cat Island and then entered the bank heading to New Bight. We fished during the crossing with Mr. Corky. No Luck. The line was twisted when we retrieved it. We are going to work on Mr. Corky and attach a swivel. Still have high hopes for him.
We arrived at Cat Island in the late afternoon and anchored off the highest hill where we could see the remains of the monastery. There are only 4 boats, widely spaced in our anchorage. The moon rose almost full after sunset. We did not have enough time to go explore so we did not launch Fat Tuesday. We relaxed on the boat and finished off the lobster pasta. Early to bed.
