On to Fernandina

We were going to head to St. Mary’s Georgia but the marina was full so we opted for Fernandina. I had wanted to explore Cumberland Island and there is a ferry from St. Mary’s that we had considered but we did not want to leave the boat anchored for the trip so we opted for Fernandina.

Leaving St. Augustine at first light

The waterway was busy but we made our way. The Tolamato River north of St Augustine is one of the prettiest sections of the ICW. Green marsh joins palms and Loblolly pines to create a beautiful scene.

The next section , near Jacksonville Beach, has the bridges with current, especially the Twin Causeway Bridge. Luckily, it was much better than it was in the fall.

The waterway winds around after Jacksonville. At the south end of Amelia Island the homes look more like old plantations with white columns and large front porches facing old live oaks and spanish moss.

It was a beautiful day as we approached Fernandina. We docked right as the current switched and as we put our bow in, the current took our stern out. We regrouped and turned around and were fine. We opted for The Wicked Bao for dinner. What a great place!
