Charleston day 5

Winds from the southwest today, really blowing but much warmer. The boats on the outside of the mega-dock are getting pressed against their bumpers. We are good on the inside.

Decided on a full Charleston day today mixed with some shopping. The first stop was the Angel Oak on John’s Island which is across the Ashley river. It is at least a 400 year old tree that has been meticulously cared for. It is named Angel after the landowners there in the 1700’s. We had seen it depicted in the photography and art at the Charleston market. It was quite spectacular.

Then we crossed all of town for an REI stop. David bought a jacket made for the Arctic which is what it feels like sometimes lately.

We ubered back to the boat, quickly dropped purchases and headed out on our next walk along the harbor. There is a boardwalk that goes along the outside and through the section of town known as the Battery, where there are large homes facing the harbor, beautiful parks and old forts.

Our destination was Rainbow Row, to view some brightly colored old buildings, and then dinner with Island Mike somewhere on King Street.

Had to photograph an indigo building

We ended up at the Blind Tiger, great spot, like Jer’s condo with red Christmas balls in good use. Very crowded but we managed to get seats at the bar. Great food and fun watching crazy drinks being created. We were somewhat outdoors in a courtyard bar but it was comfortable.

We then went to a dessert bar, Carmella’s Cafe and Dessert Bar, something that every town needs. On the website, it looks like they might have one in Greenville. Thought of Becca as a restaurant idea. They sold dessert, cannolis, small cakes, gelato, coffee, tea, and bar drinks, cordials and warm Irish coffees among other specialties. They had a bar and a very long table where people mingled together, then some lounging areas around the edges.

We stopped at an art gallery where one of Mike’s friends has some art displayed. One of her sculptures there is a large gold cherry with the stem tied, titled “Good Kisser.” Very cool but I could not photograph. There is also a piano bar nearby.

Tried for a picture of the Sabal Palmetto and the crescent moon together as they are on the SC flag

Nice walk back to boat.
