Across the Chesapeake

sunrise Portsmouth

It was hazy, a little fog on The Shore, as we set out for Cape Charles. We had an easy exit from Norfolk Harbor, past Fort Monroe and the Thimble Shoal lighthouse.

It was a close reach, 40 degrees off the wind but there was enough wind to do it. We had a double reefed main and our genoa. We had some crab pots for awhile so David kept close watch.

It was not long before we could see the container ships parked off Cape Charles. When we passed them, we could finally see the water tower and the entrance to the channel. It was quiet as we entered, with the concrete plant closed. Several crab boats passed us.

Coming in to Cape Charles

We docked Josie in our slip and secured all the lines and bumpers. Friends had brought our car to the marina. After lunch on the boat, we packed up a few things. We stopped at Brown Dog for an ice cream, picked up some food at the grocery and made our way home.
