Tollhouse Pecan Pie and other tastes of Charleston

We had booked the megadock for two nights. We left the battleship anchorage in the early afternoon and headed over to the Charleston City Marina. It is race week in Charleston so many small boats were practicing and sailing in the harbor. We made our way easily.

They originally had us in a spot between two boats on the dock but we thought the space was tight so they put us in front of the sailboat where there was more room. We made a turn to come up current to the dock, which also allowed us to have our bow facing out which is nice for departure.

After docking, we did a little clean up of the boat and ourselves. We were ready for a walk to town. We walked along the Battery that goes along the harbor. It takes longer to get to town that way but is very scenic with lots of action.

We walked through the park with the oak trees. We decided to return to the Blind Tiger for dinner with perhaps a visit to Kaminsky’s Dessert Cafe later. We shared a salad and some wings, both excellent.

We walked around the town and made our way to Kaminsky’s. There are so many desserts to choose from but there is only one Tollhouse Pecan Pie. This has a flaky crust, then a soft chocolate chip cookie layer, and then pecan pie on top. And the in house version has ice cream and chocolate caramel drizzle. It was good we had a long walk back to the boat.

The next morning, we could not resist breakfast at the marina restaurant. Grits in South Carolina are just amazing. Then it was chore time. David changed oil and transmission fluid and added fuel. I took the shuttle to the grocery and did laundry.

In the late afternoon, we headed back to town. We walked through the city market. Some of the vendors were already closing up. I love to look at the art and the ladies doing straw work. We then went to the park on the water with the fountains and watched people, boats and birds. The confederate jasmine was intoxicating.

For dinner, we went to Peacock. There was a solo guitarist and singer there who reminded us of Austin. He was very good and we liked his playlist. We shared some appetizers for a light meal because we had a second round of Kaminsky’s in mind.

We discovered the dessert martini. David got one called the Curious George. The bartender was tired of drawing monkeys and asked David what animal he would like.

After one more slice of pie, we walked back to the marina.
