Sail to Great Sale

Happy Birthday David!

We listened to weather again and decided to make a move. The motoring window next week seemed to be getting more narrow and then it looked like bad weather for a good while. The weather in the Bahamas also looked a little limiting for snorkeling, extensive dinghy exploration and paddle boarding, so we were moving forward with our decision.

We headed out onto the Ambergris Bank toward Great Sale Cay. We wanted to get there in time to maybe go to the beach there. We started sailing and had enough wind and enough angle to use our genoa. Fat Tuesday was loving the ride.

The waves were not bad. Pretty soon though, our genoa was flapping and we took it down. We did not have as much speed as we would have liked so we turned on the motor.

David stayed busy with birthday calls. We worked on getting a marina reservation at the Fort Pierce City Marina and were successful.

At one point, dolphins came and joined us. They swam along our bow for several minutes. David said that was his birthday present.

We arrived at Great Sale and checked out the anchorage near the beach but it was too rough. We went around to the other anchorage with the rocky shoreline which was well protected.

After reviewing weather and routes for tomorrow, we did not have time for a beach trip. We stayed on the boat and watched the sunset as some other boats sailed in. One was our friends on Alboe. They were sailing tomorrow for North Carolina, a four day trip. We talked on the radio and wished each other well. The other was a cat named Pearl, also headed for NC.

We had a little dinner and cake and headed to sleep.
