Afternoon Turtles

It was rainy with showers off and on for most of the morning. The wind had also shifted to the southeast and picked up a bit and that put us in a wonky current/wind situation. The current turned us so our stern was against the wind and then the wind pushed our stern forward so we were over our anchor. When the tide turned, we were nice and straight with the current and wind going the same direction.

Much of the morning’s activity was watching the current and wind play with our anchor chain. The bulk of our chain and our anchor were behind us.

Around noon, it cleared and shortly after the tide would switch. We decided to go and snorkel the nearby reef during slack tide. It was about 100 yards from the boat so we could keep an eye on things.

We anchored Fat Tuesday in sand a bit off the reef and went in. It was a fairly large reef and beautiful. The sea fans and corals were amazing and we saw lots of fish. We are still learning how to video the reef with our Go Pro. It is such a wide angle, you have to be fairly close to capture things. It does not capture what I see when I just hover.

After the reef, we decided to swim around from the cave to the next cove which has another cave with some coral. I swam and David stayed with the dinghy and spotted turtles for me. I was able to swim with two of them, one was missing a front flipper.

It was a beautiful evening back at the boat. We made pizza and watched Olympic highlights.
