Moriah Harbor

We waited for near high tide and better visibility and then dropped our mooring and headed south. It felt good to be on the move again, even a short move. I watched the water from the bow. We could see the reefs and they were marked although the first buoy was in the middle of the channel.

We made it into the mooring field no problem and picked one up in the first area. But then, we thought it would be fun to go further in. We got in the dinghy and sounded it out. It was still high tide and we thought we could do it. We slowly made our way. We saw 1.3 beneath our keel on the way over but soon we were in deep water again. We picked up ball 3 and tied up.

Our first new home

After lunch, we started exploring our new home. There were several places we wanted to check out. We decided to start far away and make our way back. There was a beach at the far end of the anchorage with a trail leading to some ruins from the failed development. We started there. We saw the trail and the ruins but there were no trespassing signs so we did not take the trail.

Ruins of an old plantation

Next we went along the shoreline. We saw what looked like another trail off a small low tide beach. We walked up and came to one of the old roads. We then found a trail to Crab Cay Beach on the other side. It was a beautiful beach and people had been there likely by boat. There were some old structures there but once again, signs near them.

We walked back. The next stop was a dive site. When we approached, we could see moving water, like a current. We got in and there was water flowing out of a hole in the rock. There were lots of fish nearby in the current. As we swam around, we saw another, larger hole in the bottom where water was again coming up. The water was cold and again, there were lots of fish there.

We continued around the perimeter. There were more places to see but we were running out of time. On the way back to the boat, we saw a row of large starfish.

I saw more on my evening paddle-board. Such a beautiful place.
