West bay to Highbourne Cay, Exuma

Crazy news from the world left us unsettled today.

We are thrilled, however, to reach the Exumas. We are expecting east winds all next week which is great for going down the Exuma chain but not so great for getting over to them. So even though it was a motoring day, we decided to go ahead and get east.

We had seen a large sailboat in the distance yesterday. We went by it this morning on our way out. It can be chartered.

We headed out across the bank and as expected, there was no wind. In fact, it was glass calm, a rare day. The water was so clear, it was like a glass bottomed boat. The bank is pretty barren but every now and then, there was some vegetation and with it, fish and starfish. It looked like we were much shallower than we were.

We arrived at Highbourne around 3 pm. We had decided to do one dinner at the restaurant tomorrow night and made a reservation. When we called on the radio, they initially gave us slip 15. Last year we were in 14 and with the dinghy dock behind us, it was really difficult to get out. I mentioned this to the dockmaster and she gave us slip 6, which is super easy to enter and exit. Even slips are port side tie ( bow in).

Kenny helped us with our lines. He had been helpful to Jeff and Deb when they were here and we gave him their regards. We were able to get two bikes and we had time to ride to the ocean beach and walk and swim. It was beautiful. We returned to watch sunset on the beach by the restaurant.

We had a call with Jer and a facetime with the boys and girls before bed.
