No bugs in the morning! We decided on a day in Coinjock. It was only a 12 mile run. A front is coming through and at some point there may be storms. But mainly, let’s be honest, we like the place and the beef. We have fond memories of the Coinjock dock. It is where we met Jeff and Deb and where we began our education from fellow boaters.
After trash, shower, laundry, David decided to change the oil. They have a place here to dispose of oil properly so it was a good time to do it.
I went to some sunny Adirondack chairs to blog and catch up on messages. A text came through. “Are you in Coinjock?” It read. Attached was a picture of Josie at the Coinjock dock.

Was that a new picture? I looked down toward the boat and there were Pete and Elizabeth (Sara’s parents) with dog Kevin, walking toward me. They were on a short trip to the outer banks and they decided to come see the waterway in hopes of spotting us or waving as we went by.
We had a great visit and a long lunch. The restaurant was on Bahamas time but it was good to see them. Pete toured the boat while we kept Kevin on the dock. Kevin was very well behaved despite some duck and chicken sightings. The Morris family was moving on for a visit to Corolla and then back to Nags Head for one more night.

We went for a walk. We thought about trying to visit Coinjock proper on the other side of the waterway but the current was a little strong for launching Fat Tuesday. There was not a sidewalk on the bridge. We decided instead to walk to the little park we had visited in the fall. There is no sidewalk there either but the road is wide and there is a nice grassy shoulder on both sides and after walking the Queen’s highway, it seemed easy.
We walked past the bridge to where the water is on both sides of the road and where some beautiful cypress line the shore. If I could paint, I would paint this scene.

A heron was fishing the shoreline and was quite successful until I tried to video all the action, at which point, he stayed perfectly still and had more patience than either of us. After deleting three one minute videos of him standing poised yet frozen, we returned to the boat. Jer would have stayed until he flew away.

We had made a dinner reservation because we were in Coinjock . We had the smaller prime rib to share. It was delicious. We chose salad for our two sides. With the walk, we did not feel too full even though we had eaten a little too well.

After dinner we walked the long dock and talked with some fellow cruisers. Others stopped to talk with us at our boat.
The frontal passage is later than earlier predicted and should arrive around midnight. This will bring a wind and wind current change during the night. We will have opposing wind and current for our passage tomorrow across the Currituck. We hope to reach Portsmouth, Hampton, or Willoughby Bay by tomorrow evening.
