Windy Marina Day

The wind was still gusting and we were pushed against our dock with the wind direction. We had to adjust our bumpers a few times through the day. In order to travel north, we have to go out a cut into the ocean to bypass a shallow area in the Sea of Abaco. We then come back in another cut further north. The trip goes around Whale Cay and is called Whale Passage. It can be tricky in high winds. We decided to wait until Tuesday to make our move.

We walked to the nearby grocery to get a birthday dinner for tomorrow. We were able to find some steaks and they have a grill we can use at the marina. I was going to bake a cake but they had a nice small chocolate cake as well. We were set.

We filled water tanks and worked on our boom preventer. We rigged a strap to our boom and then a line on either side going up the boom. Then there is a snap shackle that attaches the boom line to a line going through a block forward that then runs back to the stern. This way we can adjust the preventer from the cockpit. This also allows us to attach and release the preventer from the mast with the snap shackle.

We did have a nice visitor at our boat.

We decided to go across the harbor to Snappa’s for dinner and Jeff and Deb picked us up in their dinghy and we motored across. We had a nice dinner and were able to watch some basketball at the restaurant. Michigan State was my team and fought hard but could not come back. While we were eating, the dinghy managed to wedge itself under the dock and got a small ding on the front bumper. Luckily it was not structural.

We returned safely to the boat. We hope the winds will settle a bit but there are some thunderstorms possible tomorrow.
