Great Success

We got an early start on boat work. David successfully removed the starter motor after disconnecting all the power. We removed the solenoid from the motor and inspected it. It looked like the plates made good contact. Jeff came over to help. He brought a caliper tool and measured the gear on the new starter motor to make sure it was the same size as the old one. The gear looked good for engaging with the flywheel. The attachment flange holes were the same size as the old motor. David replaced the bolts and reconnected the power. We turned the key and the engine started smoothly. Great success.

We felt very relieved and settled in to making a plan for our next move tomorrow. Plan A was to go to Conception Island. Plan B, head to Galliot Cay, plan C stay in Georgetown.

We decided on a long walk for potentially our last day in Georgetown. We crossed to the sound side and walked north up the island. We had never seen the Sound so calm. It was so beautiful. We walked, swam at our favorite beaches and floated in tide pools. We climbed to the monument and then ventured down to the Coconut Club for a snack and drink. Then we walked the two and a half miles back.

Our favorite wave beach

On our way back we spotted a hermit crab and also several little shore birds. One bird got a little food in his mouth. Every time he would stop to eat it we would get closer, he would get scared and run with it down the beach. We stopped for a bit so that he could finish his dinner. We watched another bird fish the wave line in front of us as we walked. It was amazing how he knew just where to go and which waves to run from and which waves were not as worrisome. We did not see any people on the beach on our way back but there were some signs that they had been there.

We got back in time for horn blowing and sunset. While I was cooking dinner, David saw a fire break out on Stocking Island. We turned on the radio, One boater reported it was a structure fire of an uninhabited structure near Peace and Plenty. Another said it was a brush fire and someone else said it was a trash fire. We are hoping we can get the whole story tomorrow. There was no action to suggest it was concerning though it looked massive to us. It was out before we went to bed.
