It was a windy night with gusts to 27 mph in some parts of the harbor. Morning was cloudy and sprinkling at times. After pancakes, we did some boat work: charging, put up a new battery light strand, some cleaning, more organizing. We could not go far in the dinghy but wanted to at least head out to explore a bit. Every time we started to launch the dinghy, it would blow hard and rain a bit.
We finally decided to go for it with a plan to go to check out the house the first crew will be renting. It is called Kevalli cottage and is located in a cove that they call hole 3. In the Stocking island harbor, there are 4 holes, 0,1,2,and 3. We have not yet explored hole 0; there is a shallow entrance there. Hole 1 has a lot of houseboats. We heard on the radio that one of the houseboats will be hosting a rooftop jam next week. People come by dinghy to hear the music. The middle of the harbor is home to the St. Francis Resort with a dock, restaurant and some cottages. Hole 2 is on the other side of the St. Francis and then hole 3 through another narrowing. Hole 3 is a very large cove with a deep blue hole in the harbor.

Kevalli cottage is a main house and guest house on the edge of hole 3. The caretakers are Norman and Nicki. First we tried to find the cottage from the ocean beach. We docked the dinghy at St. Francis and walked up the path and over the island. A resident there showed us the Kevalli overlook which was a landmark for the cottage. We found the concrete steps leading up to the overlook but there was a gate and a no trespassing sign so we decided to visit from the harbor side.

We found the house and dock. We heard someone talking on the phone so we walked up. Nicki greeted us and wanted to show us around. We later met Norman when he returned. She showed us the guest cottage which was a short walk from the larger cottage. There were people staying there so it was a bit awkward and we made our visit short. The place was very adequate for our group but you needed a boat to get places in the harbor. They may have access to a dinghy and have kayaks. You can walk places around on the seaside beach but it is a long walk. We are investigating possibilities.

We returned to the St. Francis and had some wings at the Snappy Turtle. They had the football game on a frequently buffering monitor. The tv in the bar was a little ahead so there were often two sets of cheers. The group at a nearby table was playing Mexican train dominoes. It looked fun. The name should be changed though.
We returned to the boat for conversation with Mike and a game of Chauncey. David had scratched his Chauncey but needed sixes and rolled five of them. I lost again.
