St. Simons Island Day 2

We visited the Coastal Coffee Shop for breakfast at our marina. This place is known for its homemade pop-tarts, a niche for sure. They also have other great options. Breakfast was served on Christmas sweater plates. Avocado toast with egg was amazing. Bought some Christmas tree pop-tarts to try later.

Homemade pop-tarts

Steven and Christina came by to drop off some bikes for us. They are busy today but wanted us to have some transportation. Bikes came with helmets, thanks Christina.

Before we could go biking, however, we needed to tackle the problem of our winch. We began taking it apart, cleaning it and greasing it. We found an excellent video to help us. Ted Drossos, how to assemble a barient 24 self-tailing winch. I learned a new vocabulary word, pawl. It is a little piece that fits into the winch on springs.

Pawls are the two little pieces above the solid metal ring. The four round brass pieces are bearing baskets

Miraculously, we got the winch apart, cleaned, regressed, pawls oiled and put the gears back together. When we turned it, it made this great sound again.

We did some more boat clean up, boat floors , and then set out biking around 340. We biked to St. Simons waterfront, Neptune park ,a beautiful community green space with lovely memory benches, a lighthouse, playground, pool, fishing pier, toddlers, dogs, and of course, magnificent trees. The star tree of this waterfront was a cedar.

Couldn’t resist a shadow selfie

We walked, shopped, had frozen yogurt and enjoyed the scenery. The bike back was at twilight but we made it. There is a path for bikes the whole way so we felt comfortable.
